Paget Juniors Head Coach - Peter Shearer

All of our Junior Teams from u8 – u16 are based at North Birmingham Academy, College Road, Birmingham. With a new 4G playing surface on which to train the facilities are perfect to allow our young players to learn and develop. Paget Juniors have teams from u8 – u16 all playing on Saturdays in the Junior Premier League, as well as an U7’s development squad.

Added to this we will soon be starting our Girls Coaching Club and Mini Bears for all of those young aspiring footballers, all based at the North Birmingham Academy.

The Coaching Programme for the entire Junior section of the club is headed by ex pro Peter Shearer. With  an illustrious playing career that took in Birmingham City, Coventry City, AFC Bournemouth and Peterborough United, Peter moved into Coaching when his playing career ended and has a wealth of top level experience to pass on to all of the young players and aspiring coaches here at Paget Rangers. 

Since joining the Club earlier this year as a replacement for our previous Head Coach, Courtney Pitt, who we were all delighted to see join the Burton Albion Academy, Peter has been working hard to instill his ideas and philosophy throughout the club.

During the Foundation phase (from mini Bears all the way up to u10’s) our main focus is on technical development, making sure our young players are comfortable receiving the ball and want to be in possession, to try new things and build the confidence they need for the years ahead.

Through the transitional years where we move to 9 a side football, where we will introduce more tactical awareness, making good decisions and a desire to win the ball back as quickly as we can.

To finally where we move to 11 a side, where whilst still retaining and working on the technical aspects of the game our players have learned, the tactical aspects of the game become much more of our focus to ready our players towards First Team football.

From our Chairman, James Parker, down, through the Club Officials and Committee everyone involved with Paget Rangers is committed to the vision and philosophy of creating a Club that everyone wants to belong to because of its values and beliefs.

The Junior section of the Club is our production line for future First Team players, this is the vision that underpins the whole Club. With Youth Development at our very core, it is imperative that we show our young players that these are not simply hollow words and that true opportunities to play in the First Team exist.  We have already seen during the curtailed 2020/21 season, the number of Youth products who have been given an opportunity at First Team level.
